Welcome to the ABC Treehouse in Amsterdam

Remember that childhood treehouse? You mainly went up there to be with your friends, away from your parents. Climbing the ladder into the tree, you could stand there and look out beyond the leaves to see the world and the state it was in. Together with your pals you could plan to save it, change it or forget it. It was a refuge, it was a launch pad. It was a place where you could express yourself.

The ABC Treehouse presents artistic, literary, and political projects which nurture dialogue and cooperation within the Dutch and multicultural community. It is supported by The American Book Center, one of the largest sources of American (and British) language books on continental Europe.

Feed the roots of your being and explore the core of your creativity.

2012 - a new beginning...

After nearly 14 years continual use as a clubhouse for the bookstore, we’d like to take a little break and rethink/refresh the concept of The ABC Treehouse and how we at The American Book Center can best use the building in the future.
We are grateful to everyone who’s helped grow the ABC Treehouse programs – in particular, Donna DuCarme and her team of volunteers, but also those who have been active from the very beginning.

SOUTHERN GOTHIC LITERATURE COURSE   Book Events

The John Adams Institute presents their Winter Literature Course. In this six-week course on Southern Gothic Fiction, you will plunge into this literature-rich part of America that is often hidden away from the rest of the world. The course will examine the harsh settings and unique language found in these works. We’ll look at how extreme situations give birth to grotesque characters, and try to find out how close they are to reality. Come and explore a mythic literary landscape in which racism, family, nature, religion and pride dictate the destiny of powerful characters.
